Continuing education leading to a state-certified diploma in Tourism at HIB constitutes a special combination of the business-related Tourism qualification with high-level training in foreign languages. The latter caters for the practical demands of the tourism sector rather than taking a scientific, theoretical approach to language

conception of the tourism management programme at HIBWe offer continuing education in Tourism that is geared to the professional demands of the trade: in modules such as business administration, economics, accountancy and human resources management you begin by broadening the general business knowledge that you acquired during your commercial training. In addition, our comprehensive software training brings you up to speed in all job-related office applications. Continuing education in this field takes place within the main subject of Tourism, which includes training events in areas such as travel law, tourist traffic, tourism institutions, marketing and controlling, and ensures sector-specific enhancement of your business management know-how. The modules on management for tour operators, hotel management, international air transport, along with trade fair and congress organisation provide you with additional know-how for major segments of the tourist industry. You thus acquire a broad qualification profile that will open all kinds of doors to you when it comes to developing career opportunities in professions of the tourist sector.

tourism management programme at HIB - programme overviewDuring your continuing education in Tourism you take at least 2 foreign languages. We offer you different language levels to suit your prior knowledge and interest: besides English you take a second foreign language such as Spanish or French. In Year 2 of the course, if you have a strong aptitude for foreign languages you can also opt to take a third language such as French, Spanish, Italian or Chinese. Subsidiary language areas such as corporate communication, conversation and translation ensure that the language training is geared to the demands of your subsequent working world. The additional Areas Studies module gives you important insights into the history, culture and economic life of the different language areas. Language qualifications are an important building block for your future professional development, particularly if you aspire to managerial posts. They enable you to back up your technical expertise with the ability to negotiate confidently with international business partners in a foreign language.

At the end of the second year you document your ability to consolidate, apply and present the knowledge you have acquired by independently preparing a dissertation on a business administration topic concerning the tourist industry. The ideal situation is of course to write the business administration paper in close co-operation with a company.

In an optional third year of study that leads to an internationally recognised Bachelor's degree and is conducted entirely in English, you choose supplementary modules on top of the compulsory Tourism modules in areas such as events management, culture management, or marketing management. You are thus free to choose your modules to suit your subject interests. HIB will also introduce an optional post-graduate programme in tourism management following on from the Bachelor's programme and leading to the award of a Master's degree.
