Rationale for Module |
Business analysis and decision-making techniques
contribute to the effective and efficient management of a business
enterprise. Well-founded, rational strategic and operational
decision-making relies on the systematic analysis of financial
performance and the provision of relevant information on the past,
present and future activities of the company. Structuring the decisions
about what the firm is doing, can do and should be doing, is at the
heart of strategic management. Equally important to support such
decisions, management accounting and forecasting techniques provide an
invaluable insight into the interrelated nature of business activities.
The module’s emphasis is on concepts that underpin techniques, use of
the information generated (rather than the generation of the information
itself) and the implications of using the techniques in a business
context. The module builds on students’ knowledge of accounting developed at Levels 1 and 2, and on underpinning knowledge and understanding gained in information management. |
| Aims |
This module aims to: 1. provide students with an overview about the strategic management process and its instruments used in the process 2. discuss the contribution of management accounting and forecasting to strategic, operational and tactical decision making within businesses under conditions of risk 3. apply decision-making, planning and control techniques in the light of new managing accounting techniques and explore their limitations |
