Rationale
for Module
Project management and professional communication skills are vital for the students’ personal development and
career success. Especially for young professionals, projects are a platform to gain experience, to meet experts from
various fields and to demonstrate their own abilities to manage ideas and resources in an integrative manner. For
companies, effective project management is necessary to generate innovations, react originally and flexibly to
changing circumstances and in general to remain competitive. Managing an interdisciplinary project demands high
quality communicative ability. Many companies select new staff members based not only on their academic grades,
but focus increasingly on the candidate’s personality and transferable skills.
Aims This module aims to:
• develop students’ understanding of the advantages of management by objectives
• motivate students to become a member of a project team and to co-operate and communicate in a mature and
  professional manner
• teach students modern project management techniques
• enable students to be aware of the underlying psychological conditions for verbal and non-verbal communication
• motivate students to communicate in a mature and professional manner
• enable students to understand and overcome communication problems
• enable students to give presentations in a professional way, including classic and modern visualisation
  techniques
• enable students to take part in group discussions constructively and to chair meetings
