International Studies in Marketing and Media Management - OverviewAre you interested in how companies market products and services on an international scale and develop communication strategies for markets at home and abroad? The course in Marketing at HIB offers you a spring board from which to launch a career in international marketing, particularly in all areas of communication management. It is based on a core business programme that lends your qualification profile the requisite disciplinary breadth. This core programme is intertwined with the course specialisation taken from marketing and media along with training in at least two foreign languages. You thus acquire not only management and marketing know-how, but also the communicative expertise vital to those in service industry careers when it comes to dealing professionally with business partners from home and abroad.
On this course, you learn about the entire spectrum of marketing and the special requirements in an international environment: from market research through strategic marketing planning down to the individual instruments of marketing. Marketing communication and media management constitute a main focus of the marketing course, as it is only with the help of modern mass media that companies can communicate effectively with their target groups.
Activities
such international management and marketing strategy teach you how companies
develop strategies in order to secure for themselves a cutting edge over
competitors in the long term. You learn how the media business is structured,
how an advertising campaign is developed, and how the deployment of such media
is planned. In the marketing and media interactions module, you examine the
rapid developments within the media industry and their impact on corporate
communication management. In the module on advertising psychology and media
design you are taught the basics of developing and producing modern media. You
then get the opportunity to put the knowledge acquired here to practical use in
the graphic and screen design module, using professional graphics software on
the PC. Comprehensive software training brings you up to speed in all
job-related office applications, ready for working life. In the third year of
study, which takes place entirely in English, you choose supplementary modules
on top of the compulsory modules in areas such as Events Management or Culture
Management. You are thus able to choose your modules to suit your subject
interests.
Foreign language training is a particularly important highlight of Marketing and Media studies at the HIB: besides English, you take a further foreign language such as Spanish or French. If you have a strong aptitude for foreign languages, as of semester 3 you can also study in three languages, selecting a third language such as French, Spanish, Italian or Chinese. Subsidiary language areas such as corporate communication, conversation, and translation ensure that the language training is geared to the demands of your subsequent working world. The additional Area Studies module gives you important insights into the history, culture and economic life of the different language areas.
After
semester 2, you complete a placement of around 3 months' duration and
after semester 8, you complete a 4-months' placement. This gives you a general idea of the professional opportunities
available in the creative indiustries. Needless to say, you don't have to spend
this practical phase in domestic companies but are also free to experience first
hand the fascinating career options that the tourist industry abroad has to
offer. Within the framework of our comprehensive
soft skills
training you devote yourself to developing your personality. You deal with
topics such as the ability to work in a team, conflict-solving potential and
strong communication skills – attributes of particular importance in subsequent
managerial posts.
