With
its accreditation
according to the requirements and stipulations of the British academic system,
HIB has committed to a very clear-cut mission: the study programme must ensure
the employability of its students. Of course the theoretical and scientific
foundation of the tuition forms an important pillar of HIB management studies.
But at HIB we give precedence to the consistent gearing of our
study objectives
to the requirements of professional practice and the teaching of vocational
skills. Regardless of whether you come to us to study Events Management, Tourism,
Cultural Management or Marketing: we don't just teach you the specialist
knowledge that you will need in practice. It is far more important to us that
during your course you develop transferable skills from which you can benefit
throughout your career - whichever sector or company division you eventually
'end up in'.
We
have defined our study goals in direct compliance with the job profiles from
professional practice. When it comes to international service management,
however, these job profiles tend to be very complex and subject to rapid change.
For HIB and its tutors, keeping its finger on the pulse means engaging in a
constant ex-change with the professional and academic world outside, continual
scrutiny of the structure and curricula of the study programme, and adjustment
to new circumstances as they develop. The professional success of our graduates
has for decades provided impressive evidence of
employers' satisfaction with the
qualification profile developed by us. Our
Career Service receives job
offers from companies at home and abroad with the request to place appropriate
graduates. HIB events designed to nurture corporate contacts are regularly
attended by business professionals and 'old boys and girls'. This demand
confirms to us that courses offering a combination of international service
management know-how together with high-grade training in at least 2
foreign languages
open up interesting prospects for the future.
We have institutionalised this dovetailing with the world of work by founding
an Advisory Board. Members of this Advisory
Board include leading personalities from all kinds of economic sectors. They put
their professional experience at the service of Heidelberg International
Business Academy. For example, HIB consulted the members of the Specialist
Advisory Committees when in the process of developing and accrediting the study
programme, and sought advice from the professionals when defining the study
goals for the various disciplines. This close exchange with professionals
strengthens the practical relevance of the study programme and ensures that our
graduates match the job profiles in the respective branches of the economy.
Staying
in contact with alumni is of course also important to us. They are best
acquainted of all with the interface between studying at HIB and working life.
With their experience they can give us authentic feedback on how their HIB
course qualified them for their subsequent jobs. Our alumni club 'HIB Fidelity'
is the network for exchanging information and communicating between HIB, its
alumni and the students. Free membership gives our alumni access to a member
database and all services included in our Career Service. This way you can keep
up with friends and engage in 'networking' by making use of contacts established
during your time as a student.
My
first thought was very simple: Yes to languages, no to a classic degree course!
This led to the next question: Is there a course that caters for my enjoyment of
languages? And what else is important to me? Definitely a business background in
order to be really versatile. Wishful thinking or a perfectly realistic goal?
Then I discovered the International Office Management course at HIB. English,
French and Spanish com-bined with business administration, economics and
computing. The perfect blend! And all this within two years and state
certified. Certainly not an easy option at first glance, but exactly what I was
looking for. I improved my language skills with the help of native speakers,
while graduates in business administration and economics gave me an
understanding of the German economy and a lot more besides.
Today I make daily use of what I learned on the course in my current work with superiors, colleagues and clients. On completing my training I joined SAP AG as a personal assistant and team assistant and have been looking after a team of 25 software developers ever since. My training was the ideal preparation for this work and I'm glad that I decided on that particular course of study!
