In all sectors of the economy, companies are active outside their base country in order to serve customers/clients abroad and open up new market segments. They bundle their strengths via cross-border mergers or joint ventures. Internationalisation has meant a decline in the significance of borders, and markets world wide have grown together. Communication expertise and service orientation form the main basis of fruitful collaboration in day-to-day dealings with customers/clients, suppliers, staff and partner companies all over the world. These developments have created new and interesting job profiles in internationally active companies. Thanks to the broad disciplinary scope of management studies at HIB, you will find a variety of job openings and development opportunities available to you in all kinds of posts and functions in the field of international business. Here are a few examples:

In marketing you are involved in the development of advertising campaigns and you control individual project phases, taking into account both the design and any economic and technical specifications laid down by your company. In public relations you develop communication strategies in order to raise the public profile of the companies in your care and plant the most positive image possible in the minds of the consumers. In product management you can be in on the individual phases of marketing a product, from the first product idea through market launch down to eventual replacement by another product.

Human resources management is concerned with the social aspects of day-to-day business in organisations. Within the scope of staff recruitment you participate in appropriate selection procedures or are directly in-volved in job interviews. In order to cultivate staff potential to an optimum degree, you advise staff members on their future career path within the company and co-ordinate made-to-measure training measures. In management consultancies you work in a team with other professionals to develop strategies for your customers: for instance, you advise companies on how to expand their competitive edge, on promising foreign locations in which to open up new markets, on how to finance the setting up of new production sites, or how to go about simplifying the organisational structure in order to save costs. Your communication skills are an important building block if you are seeking to take up a managerial position: they enable you to carry out your responsibilities within the company with confidence, not just in terms of technical expertise but also language-wise during discussions and negotiations with staff and business partners.

»It was clear to me right after Abitur: I wanted foreign languages to be a major part of my training, but it should also be geared to business. This meant that a course in International Business Management was absolutely ideal. I found the foreign language subjects particularly informative and motivating, as we were lucky enough to benefit from authentic language training delivered by native-speaking tutors. During my two placements, for which I felt well prepared as a result of the business modules, I was able to gather important practical experience for subsequent entry into the workplace.
